How to Use the Calorie Calculator

To use this calculator, fill in all the fields with your personal information:

  • Age: Enter your age in years.
  • Gender: Select your gender (Male or Female).
  • Weight: Enter your weight in kilograms.
  • Height: Enter your height in centimeters.
  • Activity Level: Select the option that best describes your level of physical activity.

Once all fields are completed, click on the “Calculate” button. The results will show your daily calorie needs for maintenance, weight loss, and weight gain.

How It Calculates the Results

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs to perform basic life-sustaining functions. BMR is calculated with the following formulas:

  • For Men: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5
  • For Women: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161

The calculator then multiplies your BMR by an activity multiplier based on your selected activity level to estimate your total daily energy expenditure (TDEE), which is the number of calories you need to maintain your current weight:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise): BMR * 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): BMR * 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): BMR * 1.55
  • Active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days/week): BMR * 1.725
  • Very active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job or 2x training): BMR * 1.9

For weight loss, 500 calories are subtracted from the maintenance calories, and for weight gain, 500 calories are added.
