How to use the Calorie Calculator

Fill in the required parameters including your weight, height, age, gender and level of physical activity.

Once you have filled in all the fields, click on the ‘Calculate’ button to see your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and your daily calorie needs based on your activity level.

Explanation of the Calculations:

The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is calculated using the Harris-Benedict equation, which takes into account your weight, height, age, and gender:

  • For Men: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 x weight in kg) + (4.799 x height in cm) – (5.677 x age in years)
  • For Women: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 x weight in kg) + (3.098 x height in cm) – (4.330 x age in years)

Your daily calorie needs are then calculated by multiplying your BMR by an activity factor that corresponds to your level of physical activity:

  • Sedentary: BMR x 1.2
  • Light activity: BMR x 1.375
  • Moderate activity: BMR x 1.55
  • Active: BMR x 1.725
  • Extra active: BMR x 1.9
