The Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories your body needs at rest to maintain basic bodily functions such as breathing, circulation, and cell production. This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to calculate BMR:

  • For males: BMR = 10 * weight(kg) + 6.25 * height(cm) – 5 * age + 5
  • For females: BMR = 10 * weight(kg) + 6.25 * height(cm) – 5 * age – 161

The daily caloric requirement is calculated by multiplying your BMR by your activity level:

  • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): BMR * 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): BMR * 1.55
  • Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): BMR * 1.725
  • Super active (very hard exercise/sports & physical job): BMR * 1.9
