How the Calculation Works

This calculator uses the metabolic equation for running which takes into account the speed, incline, and your weight to determine the calorie expenditure. The speed in kilometers per hour is converted to miles per hour for calculation purposes. The formula applied is:

Calories Burned per Minute = (0.1 * Speed in mph + Speed in mph * 1.8 * Incline% / 100 + 3.5) * Weight in kg / 200

The total calories burned is then calculated by multiplying the calories burned per minute by the total duration of the exercise.
