How It Calculates Results

The calculator uses the Harris-Benedict equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and then multiplies it by an activity factor to estimate your daily caloric needs.

  • Men: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 * weight) + (4.799 * height) – (5.677 * age)
  • Women: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 * weight) + (3.098 * height) – (4.330 * age)

The result is then multiplied by your activity level:

  • Sedentary (little or no exercise): BMR * 1.2
  • Lightly active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/week): BMR * 1.375
  • Moderately active (moderate exercise/sports 3-5 days/week): BMR * 1.55
  • Very active (hard exercise/sports 6-7 days a week): BMR * 1.725
  • Super active (very hard exercise & a physical job): BMR * 1.9
