BMI Calorie Calculator NHS – Accurate Health Tracking

This tool calculates your Body Mass Index (BMI) and daily calorie needs based on your personal inputs.

How to Use the BMI & Calorie Calculator

To use this calculator, input your weight in kilograms, your height in centimeters, your age in years, and select your gender and your activity level from the dropdown menu. Once all fields are filled, click the “Calculate” button. The result shown will be your body mass index (BMI) and your daily calorie needs.

How the Calculator Works

This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs to perform basic life-sustaining functions. The formula is as follows:

  • For men: BMR = 10 * weight(kg) + 6.25 * height(cm) – 5 * age(y) + 5
  • For women: BMR = 10 * weight(kg) + 6.25 * height(cm) – 5 * age(y) – 161

That result is then multiplied by an activity factor to derive your daily calorie needs.

Limitations

This calculator provides an estimate based on standard formulas and general assumptions. It may not accurately reflect individual variation and unique circumstances. Always consult with a healthcare provider for personal advice.
