How It Calculates
The calculator uses the Harris-Benedict equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the number of calories your body needs at rest.
- For males: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) + 5
- For females: BMR = 10 * weight (kg) + 6.25 * height (cm) – 5 * age (years) – 161
This BMR is then multiplied by your activity level to estimate your maintenance calories, the number of calories you need to maintain your current weight.
Depending on your goal, the calculator adjusts the maintenance calories:
