How to Use the Calorie Calculator

Fill in all the required fields in the form: select your gender, input your age, weight, and height, and choose your activity level from the dropdown menu. Once all the data is entered, click the “Calculate” button. The results will display your maintenance calories and your calories for weight loss with a 500 calorie deficit.

How It Calculates Results

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor Equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is the amount of energy expended while at rest. The BMR is then multiplied by the activity level to estimate daily calorie needs for maintaining current weight.

For weight loss, 500 calories are subtracted from the maintenance calories to create a caloric deficit, which can lead to weight loss.

Here are the formulas used:

  • For Men: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) – (5.677 × age in years)
  • For Women: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) – (4.330 × age in years)
  • Maintenance Calories = BMR × Activity Level
  • Weight Loss Calories = Maintenance Calories – 500

Limitations

This calculator provides an estimate based on universal formulas and does not account for individual variations in metabolism, muscle mass, and other factors. It is important to consult with a healthcare provider or nutritionist for personalized advice and recommendations.
