This tool helps you calculate how many calories you need to consume to gain muscle.

Calorie Intake Calculator for Muscle Gain

How to Use the Calorie Intake Calculator

To estimate your daily calorie needs for muscle gain, please enter the following parameters into the calculator:

  • Age: Your age in years
  • Gender: Select whether you are male or female
  • Weight: Your current weight in kilograms
  • Height: Your current height in centimeters
  • Activity Level: Select your general activity level from the dropdown menu

How the Calculator Works

This calculator uses the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) formula to estimate the number of calories you need to maintain your current weight based on your gender, age, weight, and height. Then, it multiplies this number by an activity factor that you select to account for your daily physical activity levels. Finally, it adds an extra 500 calories to provide a surplus, which is generally acceptable for muscle gain.

The formula is as follows:

  • For males: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 * weight in kg) + (4.799 * height in cm) – (5.677 * age in years)
  • For females: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 * weight in kg) + (3.098 * height in cm) – (4.330 * age in years)

Then, the BMR is multiplied by an Activity Factor, ranging from 1.2 (Sedentary) to 1.9 (Super active), to estimate your Maintenance Calories. Finally, the calculator adds 500 calories to this Maintenance Calories to generate the Caloric Intake required for muscle gain.

Limitations

Please note that this calculator provides only an estimate and that individual needs may vary. Factors such as your individual metabolism, exact level of physical activity, and specific fitness goals can cause deviation from these estimates. Always consult with a healthcare provider before making any drastic changes to your diet or lifestyle.
