How to Use the GDM Calorie Calculator

How It Calculates Your Caloric Needs

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for estimating Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and adjusts it based on your activity level:

  • BMR for males: 88.362 + (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) – (5.677 × age in years)
  • BMR for females: 447.593 + (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) – (4.330 × age in years)

This BMR value is then multiplied by the activity factor you selected to provide an estimate of your daily caloric needs.

Limitations of the Calculator

This calculator provides an estimate of caloric needs based on average values and cannot account for all individual differences. Factors not considered include but are not limited to metabolic efficiency, muscle mass, and specific medical conditions. Always consult a healthcare provider for personalized advice.
