How It Calculates the Results

The calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), which is an estimate of the number of calories you’d burn if you were resting all day. The formula for calculating BMR is different for men and women:

  • For men: BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 × weight in kg) + (4.799 × height in cm) – (5.677 × age in years)
  • For women: BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 × weight in kg) + (3.098 × height in cm) – (4.330 × age in years)

Next, the calculated BMR is multiplied by an activity factor that corresponds to your typical level of physical activity to determine your daily calorie needs.

Limitations

Please note that this calculator provides an estimate of your daily calorie needs based on the information you input.
